Police, fire and Napier City Council officials last night conducted their first "Safe as Houses" project event on Russell Rd, Marewa.
About 60 houses on the street were visited by teams of police, fire and council staff.
The residents were offered advice and information about all aspects of home and personal safety, including council advice on their properties.
Sergeant Nigel Hurley, who is running the project, said he had heard of something similar running successfully in Tauranga.
"I went up there and visited some of the community constables and the project was working really well. It is the first time we are running it down here."
