Oh the agony ... Hawke's Bay under-16s rugby fullback Lincoln McClutchie would have been feeling it yesterday.

McClutchie missed a few handy kicks including a late penalty as his team lost 35-34 to Wellington on day 2 of their Hurricanes tournament in Levin.

This loss means defending champions Hawke's Bay must beat Manawatu tomorrow and hope Poverty Bay somehow upset Wellington to have a chance of retaining their title.

Flankers Nick Hutton, Jeriah Mua and Jack Vaimoli had massive workrates for the Bay.

Vaimoli, Josh McIntyre, Dennon Robinson, Nikamu Puketapu-Kuru and Kianu Kereru-Symes scored tries for the Bay, McClutchie kicked two conversions and Jacob Stephenson kicked a penalty and a conversion.

The Hawke's Bay Development team will play Wairarapa Bush tomorrow for third place in division two after losing 41-27 to Wanganui yesterday. Lock JJ Scales was the Bay's player of the day.

McGregor, Scales, Nathan Epplett and Nathan Giles scored tries for the Bay and McGregor kicked two conversions and a penalty.

Today is a rest day at the tournament.
