Lucy Roberts aspires to be a surf lifeguard and can't wait to gain her full qualifications.
Young lifesavers like Miss Roberts have been given the opportunity this week to earn a rookie certificate, kick-starting their lifesaving activities.
The group are spending four days out at the beach and one day at Windsor Park learning first aid. Miss Roberts said they were learning rescue and release, CPR and sun safety. "Its been a fun week so far and really beneficial."
Supervisor Rachel Roberts said it was the perfect way for keen youngsters to gain an understanding of the basic lifesaving skills.
It was the first time the course, run by Toni Dunstan and Scott Bicknell, had been run in Hawke's Bay.
