Cowboys from throughout the country enjoyed a day of hot weather, bull riding and gumboot throwing at the Upper Mohaka Rodeo yesterday.
Event organiser Simon Tahau said up to 1800 people turned out beneath clear skies in the 30C heat.
The New Zealand team beat the Australians in the third test of the Trans Tasman High School Rodeo Challenge, winning the series overall.
There were minimal injuries received by riders and "everyone got away scot free," aside from a bull that injured its back and was put down by a veterinarian.
"It was a really good day, everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves. It was unfortunate that we lost a bull, but these things happen."
