State Highway Two north of Napier has reopened tonight after a serious crash earlier this afternoon.
Emergency services responded to the crash north of Bay View, where two trucks were involved.
A police spokeswoman said two people had been seriously injured in the collision but a hospital spokeswoman confirmed tonight that they were now in a stable condition.
Police had to close the road while one of the trucks was removed by a crane, turning traffic away on SH2 near the Whirinaki stretch. It was understood the crash occurred between Whirinaki and Tangoio.
The commercial vehicle investigations unit would be responding. It is understood one logging truck had fallen down a bank, while one half of a smaller contracting truck had been smashed in.
