Hawke's Bay's river levels are starting to drop as temperatures soar to nearly 30 degrees Celsius.
The area is drying out with rainfall in the region less than half of the monthly average.
Hastings had a high of 29.7C on Friday, Napier had 27.2C, and Wairoa had 27.8C.
MetService's Stephen Glassey said there has been a northwesterly flow over the country since Sunday which has been responsible for the warm and dry spell.
"This will continue into the first half of the weekend at least," Glassey said.
