People answered the call to pull on some gumboots and get their hands dirty at the weekend.
On Saturday, Havelock North Intermediate received a "treemendous" makeover to transform the grounds into an outdoor learning space.
Locals came with buckets, wheelbarrows, gloves and gummies for a working bee to build a path linking three local schools and a shared community area littered with natives.
Vegetable planters, bird feeders and beehives were also added while "The Bugman" Ruud Kleinpaste educated students on the bugs found in their back garden.
The Intermediate was one of four schools selected as part of a 2015 Treemendous School Makeover programme and is one of three North Island schools to get a makeover this year.
