A heavy downpour in Hawke's Bay on Monday night is unlikely to be repeated for the rest of winter.
The flood gates opened at about 8pm and poured 5.6mm of rain on the region. This figure was just slightly under what MetService considers a "significant rain event."
Back in June, in just 20 hours, Dannevirke received 60.6mm of rain between 4am and midnight that same day.
The rain left gutters flooded and stock standing in pools of water.
According to long-term rain radars there is unlikely to be another significant amount of rainfall in the Bay for the remainder of the winter months, MetService meteorologist Rebekah LaBar said.
