Rain put a dampener on the fireworks' plans of many last night, with Hawke's Bay fire crews reporting a non-eventful Guy Fawkes.
Those who did brave the drizzle used safe practice, causing no hassle.
A distinct lack of trouble could be put down to harsher legislation and better education, Hastings Fire Service Senior Station officer Scott Gray said.
"So far we have not been out, it's not over yet though, people tend to let them off for about a week afterwards.
"It all depends but we were lucky enough that we have not seen any problems this year. It's getting a lot more civilised than it used to be."
