A patchy end to the week is in store for the region before a spate of sunshine sets in.
MetService meteorologist Claire Flynn said a high-pressure ridge was bringing warm weather to most parts of the country but an approaching front means things will become unsettled.
Today's outlook is for morning cloud, light northerly winds and a 21C high. Tomorrow will be fine with a maximum of 24C forecast. A front will move across Hawke's Bay late in the day, bringing a southwest change on Sunday.
Heavy morning rain will clear in the late afternoon and bring much cooler temperatures, with 8C the forecast overnight low. Behind that front should be a pattern of settled weather.
For those rising at dawn on Anzac Day, the news is much better. Monday will be fine with moderate southwesterlies.
