It looks likely the Woodville-Pahiatua Racing Club has managed to claw back a meeting, to give it five a year again.
"We're only at the second phase of the consultation process (with the New Zealand Racing Board) and although it's not finalised yet, it appears we will get a May meeting," club secretary Paula McCool said.
Originally it appeared the racing board's draft calendar would take another meeting from the Woodville-Pahiatua Racing Club, leaving it with just four and putting the club's viability at risk.
The racing board had been steadily dropping race meetings at the Woodville-based club, which had five meetings last year and seven previously.
McCool had told the Dannevirke News it would be touch-and-go for the club with just four meetings a year.
"Winning back a fifth race day is a victory for us and we all heaved a big sigh of relief," she said.
