Hawke's Bay District Health Board is advising people not to swim or fish in Porangahau Estuary after recording E.Coli levels three times above what is considered safe for swimming.
The E.Coli levels were found due to regular monitoring by Hawke's Bay Regional Council.
Central Hawke's Bay District Council has put up signs at the boat ramp at the estuary warning people not to swim or fish in the estuary until further notice.
The DHB, HBRC and Central Hawke's Bay District Council are working together to determine the cause of E.Coli.
Information on water quality can be found on the regional council's website.
