The car was spiked a short time later and the driver arrested on Caroline Dr, Hastings, at 10.15pm.
A man, 38, will appear in the Hastings District Court tomorrow charged with failing to stop when signalled by police, assault, reckless driving and contravening a protection order.
Also overnight, a person took off on foot after police stopped a vehicle on Maraekakaho Rd, Hastings.
A man was arrested about half an hour later.
Police had a warrant for a 31-year-old man's arrest and he will appear in Hastings court tomorrow.
Police also responded to crashes on Friday night.
One person suffered moderate injuries in a two-car crash about 7.10pm at the intersection of Wilson Rd and Arbroath Ave, and was treated at the scene.
But the occupants of the other vehicle had fled the scene on foot.
Police said yesterday they were continuing investigations but it appeared no arrests had been made.
They said there was no confirmation of reports a pedestrian had been struck.
Fire and Emergency NZ also attended and helped give first aid.
Also on Friday evening, two cars crashed on Guppy Rd in Taradale, but no one was injured.
