Police called to firearm sighting near Hastings dog park

Police were called to a reported gang-related firearm incident near a popular dog park in Hastings on Wednesday morning.

It's understood a member of the public called in a disturbance about 10am, with initial reports of a gang disturbance near the intersection of Pakowhai Rd and Ellwood Rd.

Police said they received a report of someone believing they had sighted someone with a firearm in the car park of the Pakowhai Regional Park.

Officers and patrol cars attended and conducted area enquiries, but "nothing suspicious was located".

A witness at the scene said police officers spoke with dog walkers and families in the dog park and surrounding area.

A police spokeswoman said nobody officers spoke to in the area reported seeing anything unusual.

A Pernel fruit and vegetable shop employee said they had not seen any gang members or heard any gun shots.

"There has been quite a lot of police in the area. They seem to be looking for someone," she said.

No one related to the incident has yet been found by police.
