Police are seeking information after a stabbing at a party in Napier.

Police are seeking information after a stabbing at a party in Napier.

A party in suburban Napier that spiralled out of control on Saturday night ended with one teenager being taken to hospital with stab wounds and several others nursing bruises and abrasions.

It also resulted in police who were called to quell the disturbance seeking information from the public about who delivered the stab wounds.

Hawke's Bay CIB Acting Detective Sergeant Glenn Restieaux said while the 19-year-old man's stab injuries were not life threatening and he was likely to be discharged today, the incident could have had more lethal consequences.

Police were called to the property in Plowman Cres, Onekawa, about 11.20pm after getting reports of people fighting on the street.

"We are not entirely sure what has happened but it appears there had been some sort of altercation out the back of the property and it has ended up out on the street," Mr Restieaux said.

He added police had not received a good response from some of those at the scene.

While the teenager's assailant had not been identified police did uncover a knife and a screwdriver.

The incident did not appear to be gang related.

About a dozen people had been involved in the fighting.

No arrests had been made at edition time.

"We are appealing for any information that may assist with this Inquiry," Eastern DCC Senior Sergeant Sarah Thorn said.

In April an out-of-control party in Marewa resulted in 15 arrests after about 1500 young people turned up in the wake of it being announced on Facebook.
