The Hawke's Bay police are appealing for information about an incident on Thursday morning in Tamatea, Napier.
A female teenager was walking from Wharerangi Road to Cardiff Place through an alleyway when she was reportedly assaulted by a short, stocky male dressed in dark clothing.
The male, wearing a hooded sweatshirt, ran off back towards Wharerangi Road after the victim fought back.
Before the assault, the male was said to have walked from the direction of Westminster Road/Donegal Crescent, down Wharerangi Road.
The victim was shaken, but uninjured, and is being supported by family.
The motive for the attack was unconfirmed and police would like to speak with anyone who may have information regarding what happened.
