It was time to bundle up in your winter woollies as Dannevirke's temperature hovered at a chilly 5C early yesterday morning.

And although yesterday's day time temperature was slightly warmer at 8C, the MetService predicted it to plummet to minus 3C overnight.

The polar blast which dumped cold showers in Dannevirke on Wednesday and hail in Norsewood, had come straight from the Antarctic ice shelf, meteorologist Peter Little said.
