SMOOTH LANDING: Bride Caro Greenwood and bridesmaids Tara Jensen (left) and Pip Greenwood, were delivered to the aisle by helicopter, temporarily halting eight cricket games at Frimley Park, Hastings, on Saturday.
As sweeping romantic gestures go, stopping eight cricket games to get a bride to her wedding by helicopter is up there.
Then again, Hastings couple Wayne Jensen and Caro Greenwood's [nee Williams] whole relationship has been a whirlwind.
After meeting in May last year they quickly became engaged on steps to the sunken garden at Frimley Park, where her family's grand home once stood. When that house burnt down, the land was gifted to Hastings District Council by Caro Greenwood's great-grandparents.
The pair had both been married before but wanted to make their wedding at the weekend something special to remember forever.
What better way than to have the bride and her two bridesmaids arrive by helicopter and making it a total surprise to the rest of the wedding party and gathered guests - did I mention it all happened on Valentine's Day?
They were wed on Saturday in the rose rotunda at Frimley Park, before returning to their Hastings home for a relaxed garden party reception.
"Everyone had cars or motorbikes, we wanted it to be special and different, the girls got a 15 minute flight before landing near the rose rotunda," Mr Jensen said.
Unsurprisingly their first attempt at getting council consent to ground the chopper had been unsuccessful, but a phone call to Hastings mayor Lawrence Yule put them back on track.
"He said 'we will do everything we can to make this happen rather than not happen'," Mr Jensen said. "Within the next hour our plans were redone ... we have got eight teams of cricket standing down for a drinks break while we land, they really jumped through hoops for us."
The couple avoided issues booking a florist on Valentine's Day by having the bride and bridesmaids carry a bouquet of fake flowers, while Mr Jenson's mother-in-law made button holes for the men.
There were no issues booking a reception venue as they used the back yard and catering was casual.
"We have both been through marriages and had our ups and downs but this is really special. It's also our first Valentine's together," Mr Jensen said.
