Three new places to play are being unveiled in Havelock North this month.
First out of the blocks is Romanes Park, which will be opened at 10am on April 12 by Hastings Mayor Lawrence Yule.
The 3ha reserve is now home to the Hawke's Bay BMX Club's community-funded national competition-standard track and sports a new field for Havelock North Wanderers Football Club. The park was named after former Havelock North Mayor Harry Romanes, whose family funded a playground and adult fitness circuit for the park.
Mr Yule said the park would be a "focal point" for many of Havelock North's young people. "I have no doubt that it will be very well used. It also provides plenty of space for play and exercise for other people from the community."
The council was also redeveloping Havelock North Domain. After community consultation, the draft plan was now ready for feedback.
