Tēnei te manu te koukou nei, kua tau! The Tātau, Tātau of Wairoa have been visiting all their whanaunga around the country with regard to their pending settlement. Tamatea-Heretaunga Settlement Trust had their first reading in Parliament and Wairarapa ki Tāmaki-nui-a-Rua have received on account funds to advance their claims.
Toro atu, toro mai! Te Kura Kaupapa Māori o Ngāti Kahungunu ki Heretaunga have recently returned from a visit to Hawaii and performed at the Kāmehameha School and the Polynesian Cultural Centre with many students having ambitions to return to study and work there. The Kura Kaupapa o Te Wairoa have also visited Rarotonga retracing the routes of Takitimu waka.
Tū Kahungunu Mai! At home here the Te Reo Awards are fully subscribed to 600 while the Reo Symposium has more than 650 registered attendees.
The Te Whare Tū Taua o Aotearoa Māori Weaponry mau rākau ceremony is also fully subscribed at 300. Te Whare Tū Taua was initiated by Tā Pita Sharples and has flourished despite being spurned by tertiary institutions. These events are staged at Clubs Hastings which Ngāti Kahungunu has designated as a key conference venue given the growing partnership with them.
