Place for reverie

Families came together yesterday to celebrate the opening of the CanTeen "reflection area" at Pekapeka Regional Park.

CanTeen youth worker and branch co-ordinator Kerrie Waby said they had never found the right space for their planned annual picnic, until now.

"There's such a beautiful energy, it's such a nice place," she said.

As well as hosting the picnic, it would also be the site for the group's national reflection day.

Ms Waby said it was incredibly special to have a space just for CanTeen.

"People can come here to enjoy the peace and quiet, and it's a place they can reflect on their journeys."

For those who had "aged out" of the youth group, they could still visit the spot and feel connected.

The space was donated and made possible by Hawke's Bay Regional Council.
