Children have moved into their new classroom at Patoka School after an 18-month wait.
The transportable building was trucked on to the site in late October and the finishing touches have now been added by Hastings company Cottages NZ.
Children from one of the school's three classrooms had been having lessons in the library after a school building was condemned last year. The building was damaged after a heavy snow fall and deemed to be earthquake prone.
Cottages NZ built the classroom at its factory in Hastings and then trucked it to the rural school, northwest of Napier.
Managing director John Roil said that building the classroom off-site meant little disruption on the school grounds over a prolonged period.
"We can build in any weather so there are never any delays and there are no health and safety risks with the on-site construction period being only during delivery," he said. "It was great to see the children so excited to see their new classroom arrive."
Principal Adam Cels said he was pleased to have the school fully operational.
Patoka School has 65 pupils and been accommodating nine children from nearby Rissington School, which was closed in August.
