A doctor and her teenage son are lucky to have escaped serious injury after a head-on collision on Saturday.
They were taken to Hawke's Bay Hospital with moderate head and neck injuries after the crash with another vehicle - allegedly speeding - at 11.30am north of Tangoio on State Highway Two.
The mother and son were discharged the same day.
Police constable Wayne Stewart said it was "fantastic news" they were out of hospital. He said it was a high-speed collision, despite the speeding motorist braking for 33m before impact.
"Both cars were absolutely totalled."
