Over a thousand loads of Cyclone Cook damage was cleared over the long weekend, with the toppled trees, and broken branches set to go back into the environment.
The wild weather which swept through Hawke's Bay on Thursday uprooted hundreds of trees and tore branches from trunks, leaving a trail of destruction across Napier and Hastings.
In recognition of the large amount of green waste produced by Cyclone Cook, the Napier City and Hastings District Councils organised a free waste service for the long weekend with BioRich - an Awatoto green waste company.
BioRich operations manager Nigel Halpin said as soon as they were contacted on Friday evening, they had been on board to help.
With recent improvements to the site, they were better suited to handle the influx of waste rather than local transfer stations - which usually supply BioRich with mulch.
