For the second year running, Napier Girls' High School have seen their scholarship success rate increase and were just 8 shy of their results from last year.

A total of 36 scholarships, including a record 4 outstanding were attained by 24 students from the decile 6 school, just shy of the 44 achieved last year.

Of the 36, 9 scholarships were awarded to Year 12 students, including one outstanding.

"I didn't really expect 4 out of 5. I was hoping for 3 really."

"I knew I had done the work in preparing for the exams and that I could come up with an answer for pretty much all the questions. It was just a matter of answering to their level."

She is no stranger to the academically challenging exams, having passed Biology and English in Year 12 and had her sights set on achieving 3 last year.

She is studying a Bachelor of Veterinary Science at Massey University in Palmerston North this year.

Head Girl and Runner up to Dux, Rebecca Newman was over the moon after finding out she had gained an outstanding scholarship in Economics, as well as a scholarship in Accounting and Geography.

"I'm so happy. I really wanted 3 and I hoped I would but I wasn't sure. I did Economics in Year 12, so I knew what to Expect."

She is attending Victoria University of Wellington to study a Bachelor of Arts in commerce and science, majoring in economics and environmental science.
