Out of control burn off takes firefighters and hour to get under control

A burn off in Mahia got out of control on Thursday, and took firefighters about an hour to control.

A spokesperson for Fire and Emergency Services New Zealand confirmed they had attended a fire in Mahia.

He said three appliances attended the scene, including two rural appliances.

The fire broke out just before 11.30am.

He said it did not appear any property had been in danger and the fire occurred on marshland.
