Here is a snapshot of what's happening around the region.
A roundabout is under construction at the intersection of Watchman Rd, Meeanee Quay and State Highway 2 in Napier, considered one of the worst black spots in the country. Work under way incorporates a replacement entrance and exit to Hawke's Bay Airport, off Watchman Rd.
The roundabout at the intersection of Prebensen Drive and Hyderabad Rd will be enlarged within the year. Slipways will be added allowing traffic to make left turns without being forced into lanes of through traffic. It is a key intersection for access to Napier Port.
Planned is a roundabout for the intersection of Pakowhai Rd, Links Rd and the Hawke's Bay Expressway near Taradale. Work will likely begin at the completion of the Whakatu Arterial Link. The traffic lights at the intersection of Pakowhai Rd and the Expressway will be removed, this time by work crews instead of wayward traffic.
Work on a new roundabout at the intersection of Ford Rd and Austin St in the industrial suburb of Onekawa is due to start next week. Napier City Council said it is one of the busiest in the area with increasing risk of accidents.
