Cake Stuff enjoyed a busy opening weekend with more than 200 people packing its new Hastings store.

Store owner Donna Kyle said the weekend went "well beyond expectation".

"It's a much better store.

"It's bigger, brighter and the comments we have received have been fantastic," she said.

It had been a relief to get out of the old store where there had been security issues in the past.

To mark the grand opening of the new Cake Stuff store Kevin Martin produced a Hastings-flavoured masterpiece.

Mr Martin, from Cake Boss, made an extravagant treat that illustrated downtown Hastings including the clock tower, the town sheep and fresh Hawke's Bay fruit. The company has been operating since 2007.
