A person has been taken to hospital in serious condition after an incident on Panckhurst St in Havelock North.

Police say the public can expect an increased police presence in Havelock North, Hawke’s Bay, following an assault.

Police were called to an incident on Panckhurst St about 3.50pm Tuesday after a report of a person being found with injuries.

A Hato Hone St John spokesperson said it was notified of the incident at 3.48pm and responded with one ambulance and two rapid response vehicles and one patient was transported to Hawke’s Bay Hospital in a serious condition.

A witness on the scene described seeing some officers carrying weapons.

A police spokesman said the victim was in hospital on Wednesday morning in a serious but stable condition.

“Enquiries into the circumstance of the incident are ongoing and residents in the area can expect an increased police presence.”

The spokesman said that the parties involved were known to each other.
