The provisional road toll for the Hawke's Bay region and Tararua district this year so far is 10 deaths, according to police and Ministry of Transport data.
Four of the deaths within that area occurred in July.
At the same time last year the annual road toll in the area sat at eight.
There have been 216 fatalities on New Zealand roads so far this year.
There had been 190 fatalities on New Zealand roads by the same time last year.
A man in his 60s critically injured in the fatal crash on Pakowhai Rd on July 12 remains in a critical condition at Hawke's Bay Hospital, according to a Te Whatu Ora Te Matau a Māui, Hawke's Bay spokeswoman.
The spokeswoman said that a woman who was hit by a car while on her mobility scooter in Hastings on Friday afternoon remains in Hawke's Bay Hospital in a stable condition.
The spokeswoman said that a woman in her 40s who suffered critical injuries after a crash at the intersection of SH2 and Turamoe Rd on July 20 was in a stable condition.
