Flaxmere School children like Paige Robinson, 9, (foreground) will be able to learn to swim free in a portable pool provided by New Zealand Post.
The pool, at the Maori immersion school TKKM o Ngati Kahungunu Ki Heretaunga, is part of New Zealand Post's campaign to reduce the high number of Maori drownings.
Water Safety New Zealand chief executive Matt Claridge said the pool will make a huge difference to the lives of the kids at Flaxmere School. "Maori consistently rate as one of New Zealand's most at-risk groups in terms of drowning fatalities.
Already we've been told stories about kids using the skills they've learnt." The pools have been used in six schools throughout the country where more than 1500 students have learnt to swim.
