The Angels appear to have fallen at a Napier brothel which has closed its central-city doors after being stripped of its liquor licence for not having any working girls.
The apparent closure of Fallen Angels comes amid the prosecution of bar manager Vaughan Peter Bowkett, 33, who was also stripped of his licence and who now faces 10 charges of breaching liquor licensing regulations, including allegations of continuing an illegal bar trade despite the bans.
He appeared in the Napier District Court yesterday on six of the charges relating to trading earlier this month, on top of four charges for offences allegedly committed in December.
He has pleaded not guilty and been remanded for a defended hearing on May 9.
The club originally had a 24-hour liquor licence, for patrons on the premises who took part in its core business.
But police allege they found it was being used as drinking spot for people who wanted more after the 3am closing time of other bars in central Napier.
The licence was revised to restrict trading to a 3am closing time, but police say that after that took effect on December 5 late trading continued.
There was further trade after the licence was cancelled and the manager stripped of his licence at the end of last month.
Appearing before Judge Tony Adeane yesterday, Bowkett faced charges of allowing premises to be kept as a place of resort for the consumption of liquor, selling liquor while unlicensed, and allowing exposure of liquor on the premises, on February 5 and 12.
He had previously pleaded not guilty to charges of allowing people to be on the premises after the 3am closing time stipulated on its licence, on three separate dates in December, and selling liquor outside the terms of the licence.
