The new - or returning- leader of Napier City Council is expected to be chosen tomorrow.
The council has been seeking to appoint a new chief executive, with the contract for current CE Wayne Jack up for renewal. He has been in the role since 2013 and is understood to have reapplied for the position.
Tomorrow councillors will attend an early morning - and publicly excluded - meeting on selecting the next leader of the organisation. A similar meeting was held earlier this week.
With the meeting starting at 7am tomorrow, Napier Mayor Bill Dalton said he could not comment on the number of applicants, or their calibre, until after the selected person was announced.
While the timing of the meeting was "most unusual", he said there was "nothing sinister" about it.
