New duo already chuckling

This Monday marks the start of a new era for The Hits radio station, as show host Sarah van der Kley is joined by her new co-host Adam Green for their first breakfast show together.

Having met for the first time on Wednesday this week, Ms Van Der Kley said the pair have been getting to know each other over the past few days.

"I think you can tell a lot about someone from what they bring to work for lunch. So yesterday Adam turned up with the tiniest apple in the world, god knows where he got it from, and a can of peppered steak. It's good if a man likes his steak but out of a can? I don't know whether to trust him or not yet," she laughed.

In his defence Mr Green attributed the size of his apple to the fact that he has three children, and the can of steak to that fact that he's a self-admitted "tightwad" with money.

"That's one thing I suppose people will learn about me. I don't particularly like spending money I like hoarding it...So I bought canned meat for lunch," he explained.

The new pair have already begun planning out the breakfast show, which will admittedly have a different feel now that Mr Green has arrived, Ms Van Der Kley said.

"It always takes a bit of time to get used to and the more people know Adam the more they will like him. He's a nice guy."

"We want to get out and about as much as we can to really be a part of Hawke's Bay. I'm keen to get stuck into the community for sure, and obviously most of my time so far has just been in Napier but Hawke's Bay is a big region and there's a lot to see," Mr Green said.

"I'm excited to get out and about with someone who knows the region already."

Ms Van Der Kley was quick to point out that the breakfast show would be involved in several upcoming events in the Bay, including this year's Art Deco Festival and the Tremains Triathlon.

"We're just hoping to have some fun in the mornings. It's been non-stop laughs since Sarah turned up so I think it should translate well into the show and hopefully we can give people a smile and a laugh in the morning, along with keeping them informed about the region," Mr Green said.

Along with several years of experience at The Hits in Taranaki, Mr Green brings with him a talent for playing guitar and singing, something Ms Van Der Kley said would be "put to the test" in the first week of the show.

The pair's first show will also offer people the chance to ask Mr Green anything about himself.

"I'll be as honest and as open as I can as long as it doesn't incriminate me in the eyes of the law," he chuckled.

"It's just to let people know who I am, what I'm about, where I've come from and what I'm looking forward to."

Ms Van Der Kley said the show was open to feedback, both good and bad, and any input from the community would be welcome.

"We are very committed to putting on an entertaining local show for Hawke's Bay so in terms of that nothing changes, we just got a new guy which is great!" she said.
