Presbyterian Support East Coast (PSEC) is opening a third Hawke's Bay charity store in Napier and has grand plans for any pre-loved items donated by the public.
In addition to stocking clothing, household items, furniture, textiles and sporting goods, the new shop will give old items a fresh lease of life with a lick of paint or a completely different purpose through PSEC's Redefine competition.
The competition, which kicks off at the start of April, challenges entrants to purchase an item from a charity shop and re-purpose it into something new, fresh and unrecognisable from what it was before.
PSEC head of marketing Shirley Collins said the chance to buy original, redefined pieces that are made using donated goods will be a unique feature of the charity store.
"As well as selling and recycling donated goods, this is about giving people of all ages the chance to work together to re-purpose items that were previously unwanted," she said.
PSEC currently needs donations to fill racks and line the shelves, as well as people to help sort and price the goods, man the tills, and fundraise for social services delivered every year through PSEC programmes Enliven, Family Works and Real People.
Napier store retail manager Anke Hoggett-Schnebeck said they are seeking a team of volunteers who are passionate about PSEC; the social arm of the Presbyterian Church that delivers key services to the East Coast community from Gisborne to Central Hawke's Bay.
"Our new Napier charity store with a difference provides a chance to give back, be part of a great team, raise funds for community services in your local area and get creative at the same time," she said.
"Volunteers are an essential cog in the success of PSEC as a not-for-profit organisation and we are forever grateful to those who help us to carry out the work we do helping others."
Donations can be dropped at new store at 47 Carlyle St next week and those wishing to volunteer can call or 027 655 3571 or email volunteer@psec.org.nz.
