In what will be her shortest road trip of the season, coach Tanya Dearns will fire up the Central Pulse ANZ Championship netball campaign from her back doorstep in Napier on Saturday.
In a change from the weekly commute to Wellington for training, Dearns, will welcome her new-look Pulse team to Pettigrew-Green Arena when they step out for their first pre-season outing against a seasoned Waikato Bay of Plenty Magic outfit.
With seven changes from last year's edition, the most for any team in the transtasman league, and a new coaching staff in place, the Pulse have spent time bedding in their processes and getting to know each other while clocking up the training miles during their six weeks together.
"I'm under no illusions that our first proper hit out against Magic is going to be really tough," Dearns said.
"It will certainly give us an indication of where we're at and what else we need to work on between now and the start of the season on April 4.
