The crew of the Navy's soon to be retired diving/mine countermeasures and hydrographic ship HMNZS Manawanui will be part of Napier's Armistice Day Service on November 11.
As well as marking the 99th anniversary of the armistice ending World War 1 on the 11th day of the 11th month back in 1918, the ship will be making its final visit to Napier as part of a decommissioning tour of New Zealand ports.
The 990-tonne ship is set to be decommissioned next February and will be replaced by a new Littoral Operations Support Capability (LOSC) vessel - which will also cover the duties of the already decommissioned HMNZS Resolution.
"This will bring a strong Navy presence to the service at Memorial Square," Hawke's Bay Regional Naval Officer Lieutenant Commander Neville Smith said.
Led by Lieutenant Commander Muzz Kennett, the ship's company of 24 officers and ratings will turn out for the 11am service.
