The navy's "retiring" diving and mine counter-measures support ship HMNZS Manawanui is scheduled to make what will likely be a farewell visit to Hawke's Bay later this year.
The Manawanui is set to arrive at Napier Port in November, although it had initially been scheduled to call in on June 28 for a five-day visit as part of routine coastline operations.
But other requirements had postponed that visit, a navy spokesperson said.
The ship was initially built as a diving support vessel, the Star Perseus, for the North Sea oil rigs and was delivered to the Royal New Zealand Navy and commissioned in 1988.
It was designed for diving and support operations and the Littoral Warfare Unit (LWU) frequently work on board.
