Demolition began today on the landmark Arohaina maternity unit on Hospital Hill.
Todd Property Group bought the 5-hectare site in 2011 and in 2016 the company's managing director Evan Davies said decisions about the site's development, possibly into apartments, would be made at a later stage.

Napier's maternity services were relocated in 1977 to Arohaina which was adjacent to the old Napier Hospital site.
The wing closed about the same time as Napier Hospital closed in 1997 as the Government decided to redevelop Hastings facilities as the Hawke's Bay Regional Hospital.
