Police have arrested a 26-year-old woman in relation to the stabbing of a young mother at a Kelvin Rd, Maraenui, address on May 12.

The Napier woman has been charged with wounding with intent and will appear in Hastings District Court tomorrow. She will also face two common assault charges.

The victim, aged in her mid-20s, was found by a passerby and transported to Hawke's Bay Hospital with serious injuries, where she had emergency surgery.

She is no longer in hospital and is being supported by family as she recovers from her injuries.

A police spokeswoman said they would like to thank the public for their assistance during the investigation.

A neighbour and friend, who did not wish to be named, said at the time of the incident she knew the woman because their children played together.

She was concerned about the children in the area.

Another neighbour, who also did not want to be named, said at the time that she was upset the victim had been left to be found by a passerby.

"I just think it's sad that she was lying there for so long. Nobody saw or heard anything.
"That's what upsets us, that she was left."
