Napier City Council is offering free water to anyone who needs it during the Havelock North gastro crisis.
In a statement, the council said the director of City Services Lance Titter and the director of Infrastructure Jon Kingsford had made provision for a stand pipe and tap to be available to anyone in need, beginning this morning.
The pipe and tap, fitted with a double check valve to prevent any backflow into Napier's water system, will be located on the ocean side of Marine Parade, between the National Aquarium of New Zealand and the Pump Track.
Mr Kingsford says it will remain available until 5pm today and from 9am-5pm each subsequent day, as long as it is required, and he encourages residents of Havelock North and Hastings to bring their containers and bottles to be filled .
This week, the Council also deployed four of its Community Services staff to Hastings District Council to help with the workload.
