About 900 Napier homes lost power this evening after a bird hit some overhead lines.
Power was cut to houses in Onekawa and Pirimai after the incident at about 7pm.
Unison relationship manager Danny Gough said the company received a call from a customer who had heard a loud bang on Harold Holt Ave before the power went out.
On arrival the fault team found the remains of a duck or goose which had appeared to have flown into overhead lines on the avenue and tripped out the feeder.
About 900 homes instantly lost power but within 45 minutes all power was restored, he said.
