The Napier City Council has approved changing the name of the Napier War Memorial Conference Centre to the Napier Conference Centre.
The name was no longer considered relevant with the planned relocation of the war memorial feature formerly housed in the Marine Parade centre to Memorial Square.
The Napier and Taradale RSAs were consulted on the move and the name change, and supported both.
The Napier Conference Centre is currently closed for earthquake strengthening, extensions and refurbishment, and is due to reopen early in 2017.
The war memorial part of the facility's name has caused marketing confusion in the past, Napier City Council venues manager Glenys Fraser said, particularly among potential Australian clientele.
