Of the many events held at the Hawke's Bay A&P Showgrounds, several have already expressed their support for the proposal to change the venue's name back to the Tomoana Showgrounds.
Fiesta of Lights organiser Te Rangi Huata said he was strongly in favour of the name change and thought it would be a positive thing for the community.
"I'm in favour of calling the facility the Tomoana Showgrounds. And while it may take people time to adjust, I think in time to come it will be a positive move."
Speaking from Te Ara Rama Matariki Light Trail in Auckland, Mr Huata made a point to say that many older people living in Hawke's Bay were still calling the venue the "Tomoana Showgrounds" anyway.
Mr Huata said as one of the longest-running lighting events, the Fiesta of Lights would benefit from the name change.
