The Napier Technical Memorial Band, directed by Hoani Hawaikirangi, will present another of its afternoon concerts in St Paul's Presbyterian Church, Tennyson St, Napier - at 2pm this Sunday.
A varied programme will be presented, featuring items from the recent holiday workshop run by the band, plus Romance For Bassoon by Elgar and the popular American solo with variations, Lucy Long, with guest artist, bassoonist Craig Bradfield from the NZ Navy Band.
In 1979, Bradfield studied at the Victorian College of the Arts, Melbourne, and played in the Australian Philharmonic Orchestra, was principal bassoonist in the Army Concert Band, played with many of Australia's major orchestras and Australia's premier wind band, the Grainger Wind Symphony.
Post-graduate study followed in England, Hungary and Norway. From 1997 to 2000, Bradfield was principal bassoon in the Kuala Lumpur Symphony Orchestra, with further experience gained at the National Conservatorium of Music in Jerusalem, Israel where he founded the Opus Chamber Ensemble.
On his return to New Zealand he completed a degree in Media Arts and Master of Music at the University of Waikato.
