The man accused of shooting dead his son at a farm in northern Hawke's Bay will spend Christmas behind bars and has yet to enter a plea.

Dean Cole, 62, made a brief appearance via video link in the High Court at Wellington today.

He entered no plea to a charge of murder and was remanded in custody until February.

His son Blair, 42, died from a gunshot wound at Mohaka, near Wairoa, last month and police subsequently charged the father with murder.
