For the children of Bledisloe School in Taradale the reason for wearing something a little more casual to school, as well as carrying a few gold coins, was simple.
"It simply came down to kids wanting to help kids," the school's administration manager Sharyn Titter said as the collection of coins from Thursday's mufti day was counted up.
It was put on to support the annual Christmas Cheer Appeal, and the result was a great $576.
Staging the mufti day to support the cheer appeal was the idea of the 12 young school counsellors from Year 5 and Year 6.
"They'd heard about, and we had done a collection of food for it once before but this time they thought if we could collect money then the organisers could buy what they needed, as well as gifts," Sharyn said.
