A group heading to Europe on a car journey to raise money for the Cancer Wellness Centre in Hawke's Bay has already reached their goal without even leaving the country.
Kurt Livingston, Tom Bostock, Arthur Glazebrook and Rhys Wynne-Lewis will come face-to-face with their tiny 1000cc car when arriving in France in July this year, with all hopes pinned on the old dunga successfully making the off-road 16,000km trip - otherwise known as The Mongol Rally.
Their goal was to raise $10,000 towards the wellness centre, a first of its kind not only for Hawke's Bay, but for New Zealand.
Instead, the group has already raised $16,000 all thanks to recent a quiz night in Clive on top of donations from their Givealittle page.
"We've got our Facebook page rolling and we did a raffle during Easter. The donation page itself has got to around $3000 and that was without the quiz night. We're just grateful for every donation we receive and the donation page will stay open from now until the end of our trip," Livingston said.
