The latest version of an wave pool mooted for Napier's Marine Parade, part of a family-friendly extended playground, has businessman/surfer Rod Drury reaching for his wax.
Mr Drury pitched the waterfront-playground idea to Napier City Council last year where it was enthusiastically received.
Part of the plans utilise the formerMarineland as a cable ski pool but it is the WaveGarden that has Mr Drury wanting to try it out.
A WaveGarden pool would suit the long narrow site. A wing-shaped sled is towed at the base of the pool, producing a wave along its length that grows in height and force as the sled accelerates.
"Think I might have to pop in for some due diligence when in Europe later in the year," he posted beside a video of a WaveGarden-designed pool on the Hawke's Bay ideas website Fruitbowl.
"Following on from the Junior Bike Track and the recently completed extended play area is a new family park just north of the Aquarium.
"The WaveGarden would be at the north end of the Parade between Pacific Surf Club and the port gates. Though the new configuration which appears thinner might provide better options without the late afternoon shadow of the hill."
Mr Drury said the WavePool was an "aspirational" part of the development and asked for feedback.
