The father and his teenage son who have been missing in Te Urewera have been found.

Searchers found them on the Pukekahu track about noon. They had not been seen since 5pm Sunday.

Initial reports are that the father has an ankle injury but the son is fine. Police said the father was an experienced tramper and the two were well-equipped.

The pair were reported missing about 10.30am on Monday.

Volunteers stayed in the bush overnight in huts before resuming the search at 5.30 this morning.
